Server upgrades

All the main content management systems hosted on the DEOSS community server have been upgraded this morning, including all those using Coppermine, eGroupware, eyeOS, Joomla, Moodle, phpBB, Tikiwiki and WordPress. We have also done routine Debian updates over the last few days. All this work has now been successfully completed with no server downtime.

We have also run several grep-based scripts to look for any signs of LizaMoon – a mass attack that has so far hit over 4 million sites according to some sources. Fortunately it appears that we are clear. Though we will monitor the situation on an ongoing basis

The entire server is currently being RSync’d to a remote server.

Moodle updates

We just received a mailout from Martin Dougiamas, the creator of Moodle. Seems there is a new version of Moodle available. Moreover, due to security issues, site admins are advised to upgrade ASAP. So that is exactly what we have just done. More info:-

All the upgrades were successful and we are currently RSync-ing the changes to a remote server.

As an aside, all the Moodle installations on the DEOSS Community Server now get automatic virus checking on uploaded documents and a built-in spell checker, as standard.

Server upgrades

All the main content management systems hosted on the DEOSS community server have been upgraded this evening, including all those using Coppermine, eGroupware, eyeOS, Joomla, Moodle, phpBB, Tikiwiki and WordPress. In addition, several of our WordPress sites also required upgrades to their “Akismet” plugins.

All this work has now been successfully completed with no server downtime. The entire server is currently being RSync’d to a remote server.

Goodbye DEOSS Moodle

Also we wave goodbye, at least for a while, to DEOSS Moodle. It started life back in 2006 as a pilot project for Wessex Deanery. Since then it has spawned a number of new Moodle projects including:-

Therefore the original DEOSS Moodle had rather outlived its usefulness. Whether it returns as itself, or in the guise of one or several new sites in the future, is currently under discussion.

Server upgrades

All the main content management systems hosted on the DEOSS community server have been upgraded today, including all those using Coppermine, eGroupware, eyeOS, Joomla, Moodle, phpBB, Tikiwiki and WordPress. In addition, several of our WordPress sites also required upgrades to their “Contact Form” and “Akismet” plugins.

All this work has now been successfully completed with no server downtime. However, a couple of the CMS’s were off line for a couple of minutes. EyeOS was off line because the upgrade messed up the config file. But we fixed that within a five minutes, fortunately. Also, some of the contact forms were been off-line for a around 90 seconds.

The entire server is currently being RSync’d to a remote server.

Server updates

Happy New Year! Seems it has been quite a busy week for the Debian Team over the last week or so. Consequently, we have had to install a number of upgrades to the DEOSS Community Server lately,  including MySQL & Apache.

Meantime a number of non-critical minor upgrades are planned to the individual CMS’s hosted on this server over the forthcoming weekend.

So far this upgrade cycle has caused no downtime (well, Apache was off line for about two seconds because it had to be restarted in order to deploy the upgrades) . No further downtime is anticipated. Server was RSync’d to a remote backup server yesterday, and will be RSync’d again as soon as the various CMS upgrades are completed.

Server Reboot

After being “up” for up 163 days, 10 hours & 12 minutes, and following a kernel upgrade, we thought it time to reboot the DEOSS Community server.

The server was off-line for around five minutes starting 2010-11-27 09:46 UTC.
